Hope in Myanmar

Mandalay, Sagaing, Bagan and Shan State, Myanmar 2015

In Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, democracy was suspended for decades. Elections held back in November 2015 let us to believe these days are over. However, many people still suffer from poverty, political instability and hope for a more peaceful future. Education is one of the most important factors in this transformation. Local schools run by Buddhist monks are making a difference - but in deep need of stability, support, and funding from the government. Lack of education is a major reason to widespread use of child labor, corruption, poverty,. Hopefully this become a focus area for the new government as well as for foreign actors. Next election is planed here in 2020.

Today (Jan 2023) It is almost imposible for a foringer to visit Myanmar and also very diffecult just to get in contackt with the people in this beutifull contry. It's with big sadness that the hope from days back in 2015  is now long gone.
